Stephen and I both work adults with disabilities. We both worked at art program for adults with disabilities but just at different times. Funny enough we had just missed meeting each other. I ended up leaving the art program to pursue being an EMT. Stephen’s first day of working at the art program was a day after my last day.

Our paths finally crossed in spring of 2022. I took a respite client of mine to the nickel arcade in Fresno and he was there with a group of his clients. I immediately took note of his kindness and patience for everyone around him but especially for those who were in his care.

In summer of 2023, I returned back to work at the art program. I got to see Stephen everyday at work. It was evident that everyone loves him and how he loves everyone there too. One day, I made the first move and asked him to coffee. We enjoyed coffee and good conversation at the Alchemist, a coffee shop in Tower District. From that day on, we have been by each others sides and our love grew into what it is today.
